DMC treated my husband worse than an animal
My husband, who has mild cognitive impairment post cva was there for back surgery, and developed post surgical psychosis. He was having hallucinations and was unsafe to walk. But the surgeon discharged him very early on a Sunday morning without calling me, even after the plan had been to send him to a rehabilitation facility. My husband called to say “they have kicked me out, you have to come get me”. When I arrived, they had him in a wheelchair, ready to get him out without a conversation. I got him home and had to go buy a walker, and a commode because he couldn’t walk up steps to the bathroom. By that evening, he began hallucinating again, got up without assistance, and he fell and hit his head. I messaged the surgeons assistant who said they would change his medication and that should fix it. By the next day, he fell again and I had to call 911. He was admitted, to a different hospital, where he was cared for appropriately and is now healthy and home. But NO ONE, not a representative from DMC, or the surgeons office has called to check on him since the original discharge. When I take my cat to the vet, they call to see how she is doing.

Basically threw me out the door and billed my insurance
I am at my worst, all I wanted to do was get better went to the ER because I was having very bad flu symptoms come to find out I have covid from another hospital the doctor at this unit did not check my blood or do any type of work to find out what was going on with me basically billed my insurance and threw me out the door he was very unprofessional nonchalant and do not care about patients at their worst I do not trust this hospital and I feel as if the only way I would go there is if I'm on my deathbed and to be honest with you I would ask to be moved to another hospital to die

This experience has left me disheartened
I recently visited Detroit Receiving Hospital and had a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience. I went to the emergency room for an abscess that required draining, and while I understand the delays that come with being a Level 1 trauma center, I ended up waiting over 12 hours for treatment. After my procedure, there was very little communication about my prescription—where to go, when to pick it up, or what to do if there were issues. Considering I required antibiotics, this was a critical oversight. Trying to schedule a follow-up appointment has been another nightmare. The phone lines frequently drop, and when I do reach someone, they seem frustrated, which I understand might stem from systemic stress rather than individual fault. However, the lack of clear processes and communication has made it nearly impossible for me to receive proper post-care treatment. What’s most alarming is how this experience underscores the disadvantages faced by residents in majority-minority cities.

These MFs charged my insurance $34.000 for doing my stitches!!!!
This is the worst hospital in the world!!! That is ridiculous!!!! I feel they charged it that much just because of what kind of insurance I have through my job, they rarely want to help people but they will try to get every dime they can!!! Get outta town with that bull!!! Id rather take the chance of traveling to another ER then ever go here again!!! IM SO SERIOUS!!!! I will Have a word with the billing department especially because of the fact they change diagnosis codes very frequently!!!! They over billed my insurance!!!

One of his nurses was actually stealing his pain medicine
I cannot express our level of frustration and sadness with the level of care. Do NOT GO HERE! I cannot stress this enough. My husband had to be admitted here at the end of 2022 due to a broken leg. One of his nurses was actually stealing his medicine for pain and replacing it with an allergy pill. Little did she know that the patient she was harming was on the team that developed the said allergy pill. I could go on and on. If you are taking the time to read this, please go elsewhere. That’s all I can say. This place needs to burn!

A true case study in all that is wrong with the American healthcare system
Not only did I nearly die form a routine procedure. I am still receiving new bills from this organization nearly two years later. During the process of negotiating this 2 year old bill, the billing department and I were discussing the discrepancies between the total allowable bill on my EOB from my insurance company and the out standing charge with the facility. Essentially, My maximum out of pocket for that year was $2500 and I had spent $987 of that by the end of that year. (the bill is for $1444.28). It felt like we were making headway in these conversations until one day I received notice from a collections company that they were looking to collect my debt. I now have 60 days to resolve this debt or my credit will be effected permanently. DMC is certainly leading by example in all that can go wrong in the American Health Care System.

Run for your life
This place is low. Ghetto hospital. No wheelchairs available for discharge. One wheelchair available in the emergency department and they don’t want to loan it out. On top of that they are unprofessional and rude and they treat their patients like garbage.

They are horrible and very rude!!!
Where do I begin, my healthy 80 year old neighbor who is like a mother to me has been at DMC Receiving Hospital since 8/24/23 to present. They are holding her hostage because she has no family in the states and her spouse has been deceased since July of this year. There is nothing wrong with her, she has been on the same floor and almost same room since Sept 2023. The Nursing Staff especially a nurse named Peace Vumomse refuses to let her leave AMA. Peace Vumomse and has been contacting my neighbors ex sister in law without my neighbors consent and releasing information to her. I turned in the necessary POA of Health Care for my neighbor which the staff completely ignored and instead banned me from seeing her as a punishment. There is so much more to this story that it is unprofessional, sickening and against HIPPAA laws. PLEASE, PLEASE do not take your loved one to this facility.
