No other family should go through a similar ordeal
Our experience with Memorial Regional Hospital Miramar and later Memorial Regional Hospital Hollywood has been deeply disappointing and distressing. My aunt was admitted to Memorial Miramar last Monday for what was supposed to be a routine procedure—a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal). What should have been a relatively straightforward surgery turned into a prolonged and ultimately dangerous hospital stay due to repeated delays and what we believe was poor clinical coordination. Despite being admitted early in the week, her surgery was postponed repeatedly. We were told the procedure couldn’t be done over the weekend due to the unavailability of a specific type of anesthesia. The staff claimed it would arrive by Monday, yet even then, the surgery did not happen. This delay, in our view, was unjustified and put her health at unnecessary risk. She was transferred to Memorial Regional in Hollywood on Friday, but the continued inaction and delays in her care ultimately resulted in her being moved to the ICU. What was supposed to be a simple, planned surgical procedure has now turned into a critical care situation, and we attribute this directly to the negligent handling of her case and the unacceptable delay in treatment. The lack of transparency, communication, and urgency we encountered has been extremely troubling. We feel that our loved one was left vulnerable to hospital-acquired infections and preventable complications due to systemic inefficiencies and poor medical management. We are sharing this in the hope that no other family has to go through a similar ordeal. We strongly urge Memorial Healthcare System to review their protocols, staffing, and communication practices to ensure better patient outcomes.
