Formal Complaint Regarding Inadequate Patient Care at Baptist Hospital
To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally express my deep concern and dissatisfaction with the care my mother received today at Baptist Hospital. She arrived at the emergency department at 3:00 PM to be seen by a gastroenterologist due to her inability to swallow, a condition caused by a hiatal hernia. Despite the urgency and her delicate condition, she was not offered any appropriate nourishment for hours. Starting at 7:00 PM, we were repeatedly told that she would be brought some soup or a liquid meal. However, it wasn’t until 10:00 PM that she was finally brought a synthetic, heavily seasoned soup—which is clearly inappropriate given her current condition. This demonstrates a lack of attention to her medical needs and dietary restrictions. When I addressed this issue with the nurse, I was told, quite dismissively, that “this is what we have.” The only other item offered to her was a gelatin. This experience has left me extremely upset. My mother is scheduled for an endoscopy tomorrow, which means she cannot eat late at night. It is unacceptable that after over seven hours in the hospital, the only nutrition she received was something that could potentially worsen her symptoms. I respectfully ask that this matter be reviewed and that steps be taken to ensure better communication, proper dietary care, and greater respect for patient dignity and well-being.
