Completely negligent on GW’s end
I’m actually a nurse and found myself severely sick with some sort of respiratory infection. I’m immunocompromised and have a history of going septic so I decided to check myself in as a patient. I was extremely stressed out and overwhelmed and I have a phobia of needles. My nurse was not empathetic at all. She actually had the audacity to look at me and laugh and say “why did you cry did someone poke you again?” I just sat there crying while they poked me and didn’t even seem to know what they were doing. Then a patient technician comes in and she says “hey want to try an IV on her?” To the technician. This is something I did not appreciate. She sees that I’m upset about the needles and then she uses me as a Guinea pig when this technician clearly doesn’t have experience?? Not okay. I sat there crying and they were just talking and joking amongst themselves. This technician clearly did not have experience with taking blood or starting an IV because the tourniquet was quite loose. My arms have bruises all up and down them and hurt really bad. He tells me they will need to get an ultrasound to find a vein on me. Then that never happened. They continued to use an IV that although was patent, was threaded in and causing me some discomfort. The NP and doctor did not take the time to listen to my health history. If they had they would have realized I am severely immunocompromised from being on biological infusions. They were rushing and clearly just checking their own boxes. I left and was discharged at almost 4 am without any medication, antiviral, or breathing treatment. Two days later I’m in a different facility for pneumonia. This is unacceptable. This could have been life threatening to me considering my history.

It was a nightmare experience
I waited four hours before was taken back to the area for my MRI. I was processed in at 8:30 and did not leave until 3:00 pm. It was the most exhausting day I ever had at a routine scheduled appointment.

Acquired a kidney injury and infection while there
My father came in for a procedure. When he came in he had no kidney injury or infection, but he acquired a kidney injury and infection while there. He said the sitter that was with him was so mean he was afraid to talk. However, I am grateful for anyone there who did help me get him transferred!

This emergency department is a big disaster
After waiting for seven hours, we still didn't get any help. Very dirty waiting room. Not recommended and certainly not if you are on vacation and even have very good insurance. After waiting for seven hours, we would have left anyway.

Surgery cancelled for not enough sterile instruments to perform the surgery
After waiting for 5 1/2 hours for a scheduled surgery, my Dr cancelled my procedure because there were not enough sterile instruments to perform the surgery. I wasted a day of leave from work along with my husband. Did i mention that it took 5 weeks to schedule and wait for this surgery!!?? So disappointing!!!

Horrible wait time
I was having severe chest, stomach and back pains. I sat in the waiting room for 4 hours and still wasn’t seen. The pain started to dissipate so I left.

The waiting time is too long
George Washington hospital looks more like a homeless shelter than a hospital.

Absolute, horrible experience! Very disheartening experience!
Apparently it’s now ok for ER (Fast Track) staff members to sing show tunes, have inappropriate conversations regarding race. While clearly taking offense to (their perception) on how patients interact with members of registration, versus those in the ER assisting patients helping to alleviate pain.. With only a curtain separating staff and patients this went on. In conclusion the icing on the cake was, waking up hours later still in fast track bed 5 to a completely different staff who had not been brief on my status there. Thank God I was able to call out for assistance, only to be discharged with no medication, no diagnosis. However advised to check the MyChart app for information tomorrow….Way to go America’s healthcare system.

The tech guy poses as medical staff at the ER reception and made fun of people looking to check-in with a medical emergency. He should not have a job there. I am still traumatized by that experience.
