They didn't do their job right
My girlfriend came here for surgery, but apparently, they didn't do their job right. I guess during the surgery, they didn't take everything out, and she developed an infection. She had chills, couldn't pee, was passing out, and experienced extreme pain and bleeding. We went there to tell them what the problem was, but they made her wait in the waiting room for two hours. Then they finally took her to the back, making her wait another half hour for someone to see her. When the nurse finally checked on her, they did absolutely nothing and told her she was going to be fine and that it was normal. She was feeling off; she was in a lot of pain, passing out, throwing up, and having chills. She couldn't even get out of the car, and she couldn't pee for a whole 14 hours. After worrying so much, I made her get in the car to go to Research Medical Center, and she was seen immediately. They told her she was septic, and if she hadn't come in that night, she would have died. So please choose wisely where you send your loved ones because that hospital and the people who work there do not care about you at all.

This process should NOT HAVE HAPPENED!!!!!!
I had surgery in November and I decided to stay overnight I was seen by Dr Shook’s surgical team on Friday morning and I was ready to be discharged by10:30am I kept asking about being discharged and I was told the staff were waiting for discharge paperwork After waiting 3hours, I decided I was going to leave with or without discharge paperwork and I was very upset that it was taking so long I told the staff at the nurses station that I was leaving in 15 minutes. A nurse came in 15 minutes later and completed the discharge process but not before the remote discharge person came on the speaker and went through the discharge paperwork.

I am livid. NEVER again
I was told I needed to prepay before my surgery. I was charged $3883.01. Turns out they based this on retail price, not insurance plan allowance. I only owed $353.68. After 5 weeks I was refunded $3529.33. My injury was stressful, having surgery is stressful. Having to pay $3883.01 was just icing. In the 13 years my husband and I have been going to St Luke’s, we have spent an enormous amount of money and have always paid our balances immediately and in full. To be treated with this level of disrespect is 100% unacceptable. I will be calling to remove our names from mailing lists asking us for donations to the Heart Institute- seriously?

And the reply provides a bogus link that isn’t real- concerns? I have no concerns- I simply stated facts. Wimpy, measly attempt to make yourself look better - true sign of loser

You need to price shop them
They are charging twice the national average for services such as an echocardiogram and do not disclose that prior to the service being performed. You need to price shop them because you can get the same service performed elsewhere at a much lower cost.

I asked to speak to a patient advocate 3 times during my stay and never got one
I was there a little over 3 weeks for a kidney stones, line infection, unable you get enough tube feeds in to maintain nutritional needs. They sent me home knowing that I was having difficulty with nutritional needs. They refused to help me find a doctor to help manage TPN. I asked to speak to a patient advocate 3 times during my stay and never got one. My nurse case manager with my insurance company called as well request I see a patient advocate and had to leave 2 messages with not return call from anyone. I also had high blood pressure the whole time I was hospitalized and nothing was done to find out was could possibly be causing that since I have never had high blood pressure I have always be on the lower end of the blood pressure and you can see that if you look back on my previous admissions there.

I only wish I would have gone anywhere else in my time of dire need
I went to the emergency room on a friday afternoon with severe pain and was examined and sent home. I was told to return if the pain returned and it did on sunday so I returned that evening. I was told it was my gallbladder and a er nurse commented that I should not have been sent home with my 'elevated liver numbers' from testing on my previous visit. I was then admitted to the hospital after waiting in the emergency room overnight and into the next day. I was sent for emergency surgery to remove gallstones and they did not remove my gallbladder in the same surgery and not sure why. Dr Fessmeyer came and asked me if it was okay she go home to pack because she was moving the next day and she would have Dr Arce do my surgery. I went back for the full gallbladder removal surgery where Dr. Arce admitted to slicing my liver with an instrument while holding it out of the way since it was so inflamed from the state it was in for the past few days. If only I had come sooner, like two and a half days prior maybe I would still have one of my organs. The laceration was only discovered in the following day as I became very weak and unable to do basic functions such as use the restroom - I am healthy and 26 years old at the time, now 27. I had to then go into a third emergency surgery to both a. fix the laceration to my liver and b. remove all of the loose blood and clots in my abdomen from the laceration. I lost 2 liters of blood or 40% total volume because of that surgery, had to stay two extra nights in the hospital and received 4 transfusions of blood following. I missed two weeks of work. It caused severe pain and lost time and wages. After 4.5 months of back and forth with the hospital patient advocate, 2 of which I was told someone was looking into it and no one was which was disclosed to me by Tremaine Smith, St Lukes decided that everything listed above went to plan and that I should have to pay the full amount for their malpractice. I would not recommend this hospital to any single human being and I cannot believe this is the only emergency option for the entire midtown KC area. Would have been better off having my infant son diagnose and treat me and I only wish I would have gone anywhere else in my time of dire need.
