Billing Scammers please avoid!
I took my close friend to the emergency room for severe cheek pain, but instead of diagnosing the issue with an x-ray, they simply gave a painkiller. After spending less than 30 minutes there, I was shocked to receive an $11,000 bill. The staff was unhelpful and rude, stating I couldn't leave without paying our full copay of $5000. When I questioned the high charges, they explained that I was billed for all the services I "could have gotten," even though they didn’t perform a basic x-ray, which I had to pay for separately the next day. Consulting with doctors who are friends, I learnt after that the bill was grossly inflated. I got a lawyer and escalated the issue with senior people at my insurance company and also reported to the joint commission. Questioned from several sides, they verbally admitted they “mistakenly” overbilled, and I eventually got 75% refund on my copay. I warn others to avoid this facility, as not everyone has the resources to fight back against overbilling.
