A Nightmarish Experience at Albany Medical Center's Emergency Room
Visiting an emergency room is never a pleasant experience, but my encounter at Albany Medical Center's ER was beyond anything I could have anticipated—a chaotic, disorganized, and distressing ordeal that left me questioning the competence of its management and staff. My visit lasted from 6:30 AM to 8 PM, during which I experienced a range of administrative and clinical failings that are simply unacceptable. From the moment I arrived, it was apparent that Albany Medical Center was severely lacking in organization. The sheer duration of my stay—over 13 hours—is a testament to their inefficiency. Despite being discharged, they forgot about my discharge and have still not uploaded all of my paperwork. The lack of communication was astounding, leading to repeated tests and procedures due to physician turnover and lack of communcation throughout the day. The hospital was evidently unprepared to handle the patient load. There were insufficient beds, wheelchairs, and physicians to attend to those in need. The waiting room was overcrowded, unhygienic, and chaotic. Blood was visibly present on the waiting room seats, creating a distressing environment for patients already in crisis. Additionally, procedures like drawing blood and administering IVs were performed in the waiting room amidst unhoused individuals in crisis, adding to the chaos and the risk of infections. My own treatment was rife with errors and negligence. I was admitted with severe pelvic pain, bleeding, tendon inflammation, and an inability to walk, yet the urgency of my condition seemed lost on the staff. Three veins were blown out while attempting to place an IV, leaving me with welts and bruises, and I was left to sit bleeding in the waiting room for hours. The staff ordered a CT scan, bloodwork, and a pelvic exam, but due to a lack of communication, these tests were repeated unnecessarily, wasting time and resources and putting my health at risk with double contrast CT scans. My current doctor has immediately ordered an MRI and actual bloodwork because the tests performed at AMC were essentially pointless. The behavior of the staff was unprofessional and at times, patronizing. When I expressed frustration at my prolonged wait and ongoing bleeding, I was met with sarcasm and indifference. Albany Medical Center's ER must address these glaring issues urgently. The staff's admitted communication and organizational problems are not merely inconvenient—they pose a genuine threat to patient safety. I shudder to think about the risk of contracting infections, such as sepsis, due to the unsanitary conditions. It is imperative that the hospital reviews its practices and procedures to prevent such dreadful experiences from recurring.

Everybody got attitudes, and nobody wanna do their job
I hate Albany med it’s the WORST hospital you could go to. Even though it’s the ONLY hospital you can go to for trauma. I wouldn’t recommend putting anybody you love in this hospital. Security gives u a hard time in the afternoon. The bald white guy is the only one that gives a problem, Everyday. He sits in that one chair and thinks it’s his say on whether you can come in or not when he’s just security, he’s supposed to just make sure you come scan in to scan ur ID and tell you where to go. Babies died even old disabled people in Albany medical center because of the uncleanliness, no gloves changed and they don’t check on your loved ones weather there bed written or just plain sick. There just here for the check not cuz they actually caring for your loved ones weather or yourself. You welcome for the save.

You ARE part of the problem with healthcare in this country
1 star is too many! This place should be shut down. My wife was transferred from BMC in Pittsfield via ambulance for what she was told “specialty surgery”. Instead she was dropped off in the ER still in an open hospital gown. After about a 4 hour wait, she was called in for yet another ultrasound. From imaging, she was brought back to the waiting room for another 3 hours. Finally after 8 hours total at Albany Med (after 14 hours at BMC) she was told surgery was not necessary at this time. The general lack of empathy and kindness from empathy from hospital staff is beyond concerning. They were absolutely flooded with pill chasers and obviously overwhelmed by it. My problem is that my wife was sent with a packet an inch thick with the prior hospitals treatment and imaging up to that point and was still treated so poorly. Furthermore, the place is disgustingly filthy and nobody cares. I watched a wheelchair with a bloody blanket in the waiting sit there for hours. The exam room she was brought to had blood on floor/walls. My wife being a career nurse said she has never seen any facility so filthy and poorly run. If you are reading this and work for this place, I beg you PLEASE find a new career path. Can’t wait for the bills to roll in for them doing absolutely nothing.

I understand they are understaffed but have some empathy
If I could give this place zero stars I would. My grandfather has been in this hospital for two whole days. He got an MRI and when they gave him the results he was told to use CHAT GBT to figure out what it means.. like it it’s quite literally your job to tell us what the report says.

I pray you all get sued I pray you get shut down
You all discharge a person with heart failure and blood clots also having his mother escorted out by security for what trying to be a mother and looking out for her kid trying to get her kid the help he needs. I hope everyone reads this and never goes to this hospital it’s garbage, nasty and I’m not understanding how you all sleep at night knowing you discharged a kid with heart failure and blood clots the people involved should be fired and never allowed to work in the medical field again

Horrible horrible treatment
I would rate this hospital 0 stars. Years ago this was a great hospital but not anymore. Zero communication, nobody knows what’s going on. Place is dirty, they don’t change bedding, don’t allow showers. High staff turn over. All around just bad pt care. Was told I was being discharged on two antibiotics but the rest of my health team was not given the memo. Nobody has come in to talk to me about this.

I really hope no one goes through what I did at Albany Medical Center
I had my firstborn at Albany Med where I was a RN working in L and D. I was 40 weeks into my pregnancy when I woke up to some mild contractions and what I thought was my water leaking. Except when I went to the bathroom, I discovered it was blood. I then passed a large clot. Scared, I called my Ob and told him what happened before heading to the hospital. RESIDENT #1 said I was in early labor and needed to go home. I stopped her from leaving and told her that I came because of bleeding, not labor. She then said this it was only a lot of bloody show. I requested an U/S, she said it wasn’t necessary and was sent home. I saw my Ob two days later. Upon examining me, he started me bleeding again. He asked why didn’t I questioned this at the hospital. I said, “I did, did you?” This time I admitted to the hospital. I requested an U/S again. RESIDENT #2 said I already had one at my first visit. I explained did not and I discovered that the first resident had copied the results from an earlier one performed during my pregnancy. After doing the U/S, she went to examine me. I was then transferred to the antepartum high risk floor. That night I went into labor and the bleeding picked up. REDIDENT #3 was sent in to examine me. This time, I bled out and was rushed back for a C/section. Because of the bleeding, I wasn’t a candidate for an epidural and had to be put to sleep. Nor was there any time for my husband to join me. When I woke up in the recovery room I was in excruciating pain from an incision that stretched hip to hip, shaking violently, nauseous, and still bleeding. In addition to IV Pitocin I had running, I was started on serial methergine injections. Albany Med should read their playbook on how a hospital should care their patients. It is my sincere wish they do.

Albany Med was hazardous to my health the entire eleven days I spent there
If there were a number offered for review/rating of Albany Med lower than one I would definitely and with both full confidence and experience award it to this so-called ‘medical’ establishment. In fact Albany Med was hazardous to my health the entire eleven days I spent there as a patient with a rare form of pneumonia. Rude and untrained staff, incompetent doctors who frequently contradicted each other, food that rated less than prison fare, 20-30 minute wait for assistance, etc. The only bright spot of my stay was the dedication and professionalism of the nursing staff. They were terrific. Avoid this ‘hospital’ if you value your health!!!

The ICU is seriously lacking in satisfactory staff
There is absolutely zero bedside manner to some of these people, the ones that tried to show a personality are actually condescending to the patients and treat them like children. Is that really necessary? Don’t you think they’re miserable because they’re up in age and they’re in a hospital? To treat them like children, speak to them in a condescending manner, and then look at the family members like they’re complaining about nothing? This place is horrible. You’ll get maybe one person in the department, if you’re lucky two, That actually care about the patient and treat them like a human being. People wonder why the medical industry has a bad reputation in this country. There’s a reason for it.
