The administration at UNM are a joke
I’ve been trying to get a resolution with the hospital since last year I’ve reached out to the ceo Kate Becker who could clearly care less about patient interactions and the community she allegedly serves. She hides behind her massive salary and is dismissive in all my attempts to communicate in a professional way so I’m here to tell you. UNM doesn’t care about you they care about what they can bill and how many bonuses they can count at the end of the year. Do your best to stay healthy cause this hospital just keeps getting worse and worse with there incompetence to schedule you for a simple CT to getting images to a provider out of state, mediocre care. My hope is this will get someone who actually cares at UNM but I won’t count on it as they have dropped the ball so many times miscommunication seems to be a real thing over there. The administration takes zero accountability for their short comings it’s a shame

Still Joint Commission and Medicare accredited?
Have filed a grievance with UNM Hospital but was ignored. Have filed complaints with Healthcare Authority (Dept of Health), Joint Commission and Medicare who’ve all agreed there are infractions to investigate. It’s bad enough to be incompetent and negligent in the care. It’s worse to be rude and nasty about it. Nonexistent care and worst staff I’ve ever seen! My family member was here for 2 weeks and it was horrible from beginning to end. They wouldn’t allow anyone to accompany her into the ER and wouldnt provide an update for 12 hours until I called patient advocate! Following emergency surgery, her care on the floor was horrible too. Didn’t provide any of the testing or treatment prescribed because it was a holiday weekend…I guess UNMH is just a crappy hotel on the weekends because there’s no care available. They didn’t treat bedsores or get her out of bed for 3 days. Allowed visitors to run wild visiting her roommate. She received multiple bruises and injuries from staff but no one would take action. A mouthy, rude and overly aggressive charge nurse actually said they weren’t going to investigate the injuries because they didn’t have to-it was the weekend and no nursing supervisors for me to escalate to! She literally said she wasn’t going to do anything because she could get away with it…So glad I reported UNMH to the state and other regulatory agencies who are all coming in to investigate! When she was discharged they literally threw unlabeled prescription pills in a plastic bag with her personal effects and sent it with her to the rehab. Obviously the next facility couldn’t use them in an unlabeled, uncontrolled state, so her insurance had to pay for them twice! Still don’t know if we’re going to get stuck paying for them.

I wouldn’t take my cats or dogs to this ER
The ER doctors are complete idiots. They have now moved on from “drug seeking” to “it’s all in your head” as it pertains to my daughter and her health issues.

Have some respect for the families that have their loved ones!!
My son was flown to UNM with severe injuries and put in trauma in ER at 5am. We shortly showed up after that at 7:30am. Doctors nor nurses never once reached out to us to let us know the severity of injuries, or updated us through out the whole day we were there in waiting room. I, mother, called several times to speak with a nurse, each time they would say they would have nurse call me back. And never did. We have many questions, how my son is doing, is he awake, does he know we are here, and/or how serious are his injuries. There is NOT one medically trained nurse or doctor in trauma that can take 10 minutes out of their day to reach out to a family member & answer these questions?!Your suppose the be caring in the medical field and if you don't care, FIND ANOTHER PROFFESSION!! I only hope your never put inthe position you all have put me & my family in today! Shame on you!!!

Great place if you are willing lose any of your loved family
If you are willing to lose any of your loved family and friends' lives,this would be a great place to have any of these malpracticing treating persons guide you. All smiles until something bad happens. In 2017, my mother went in for a partial hysterectomy and woke up with (44 STAPLES DOWN HER ABDOMEN ALONG WITH 1.7 LITERS OF BLOOD LOSS)THANKS TO NICKLAS ANDREW.With no legal help. Go elsewhere, at least your loved ones would have a better chance of waking up,ALIVE.

Was suppose that be 1 surgery
My sister went there for gallbladder removal and travelling gallstones. Took 5 days to remove gallbladder then the next day a separate for surgery for travelling stones. Was suppose that be 1 surgery. Went home the next day. Now she is back in there with a gi bleed....did surgeon nick something? Probably. Waiting waiting to find someone to do another scope and repair as I text this....insane

Don't go here if you actually want help
Sat in the waiting room for over 5 hours with strep, covid, and the flu. Unable to feel my face or hands or breath properly and when I asked if I was ever going to be helped I was told "obviously you can breath fine if you can talk" then told it could be another 8 hours before anyone even talked to me.

Complained that my child to get neglected cares
I would not trust this hospital for pediatric patients, countless times they have provided an unsafe environment, we had a nurse who had 6 patients, which caused my child to get neglected cares. We complained to the unit director and she ignored our complaints and they continued to provide an unsafe environment for my child every day.

Shame on this place
I asked three different nurses for a blanket and they said no! There was a little old lady asking for a blanket she was in sever pain from cancer! They couldn’t even provide her with a blanket! I was really upset to see this poor lady cold already suffering in pain and a simple blanket couldn’t even be accommodated!

Getting the epidural felt like torture, got annoyed at questions, didn't clean the room
I had my first baby here, they didn’t even show us how to bathe the baby, they were actually annoyed when we asked. The housekeepers didn’t even clean our room. And a few of the nurses got kind sassy with us for no reason. They gave me an epidural and never turned me so I was hurting in my shoulders, it felt like torture, they didn’t care. They wouldn’t give my husband any meals even though he was my support person, we had to pay out of pocket in the cafeteria which was unbelievably expensive. They didn’t wheelchair me out, I had to walk the whole way my back hurt so badly. Please, this is an awful hospital, please go anywhere else! I used to work here too, and trust me, they don’t treat everyone the same, they are awful to most patients and workers too. Again please don’t get treatment here for anything, go somewhere else.
