I hope the hospital leadership reads this
I’m sharing this review not out of anger but out of genuine concern. My brother was admitted to Reston Hospital for emergency back surgery and stayed for about a week. Unfortunately, our experience throughout his stay was far from what we expected in terms of communication, consistency, and basic patient care. Throughout the week, we kept running into the same types of issues over and over again. There were problems with medications being given without proper clarification, mixed messages from different staff members, and confusion about what was actually ordered by the doctors. Instead of clear communication, we often received different answers from different people, which made us feel unsure about what was truly happening with my brother’s care. There were also ongoing delays whenever we asked for assistance. Many times the call-button was responded to by someone who wasn’t actually the nurse, and even after they said they would notify the assigned nurse, no one came for long periods of time. This became very stressful, especially when we needed help urgently or had questions about medications or instructions. Another concern was the lack of coordination between staff. One doctor would give guidance, but when we shared that information with the nurse or another team member, they seemed unaware of it. This created confusion and delayed things that should have happened much sooner. It really felt like communication within the team was not consistent, and we were left trying to fill in the gaps ourselves. When we tried to raise these concerns, the response wasn’t very reassuring. We didn’t feel like our concerns were taken seriously or properly documented, and it left us unsure whether anything would actually be looked into or improved. A hospital stay is already stressful for any family, and the level of inconsistency we experienced made the situation much harder than it needed to be. I hope the hospital leadership reviews and improves their processes so future patients and families don’t go through similar challenges.
