I was lucky to get out with my life
Let’s talk about the disaster on the 4th floor. The fact that the nurses on the 4th floor are allowed to be near patients let alone treat them is a mystery. I was lucky to get out with my life but am curious how many people weren’t so lucky. I reached out to hospital administrators with no response. If you are in the emergency room and they recommend you get admitted, run, walk or crawl somewhere else. They have a patient advocate line which is nothing more than a team that makes sure the hospital isn’t sued. Do not call the advocate line. File a complaint with the state of Virginia. There are numerous resources online. I am expecting a canned response about reaching out to the hospital. Let’s challenge the responder to not.

Sentara Virginia Beach is the worst
I only go here because it’s 3 min from my home, but this is the worst hospital. I came in with trouble breathing. After watching all of the drs and nurses play games in an empty room and ignore me they told me nothing was wrong with me and sent me home. I still can’t breathe and am just suffering until I can see my own dr!!

It's sad that Sentara is somehow considered a nonprofit
A large portion of the ED staff are extremely rude. And obviously the prices are egregious. Unfortunately Sentara has a large grip on the healthcare system in Hampton Roads so it's one of your only options.

Absolute worst staff of any sentara ER we've been to
And we've been to most of them. Terrible. Sitting out at the nurses station right outside the room that is asking for help, just talking and laughing. 12/27/24, 12:30pm I had to go home to get some sleep since we had been in Obici the entire night before waiting for MRI's and am going to have to be in this ER another full night since Obici MRI went down. I called the desk and was able to ask my wife's nurse what the deal was and things improved somewhat. I shouldn't have to call though. And this night will have to be spent on a tiny chair, so not looking forward to it. No nice recliners like Obici had for overnight guests. 12/27/24, 4:30 pm. Finally got the MRI. Doctor can't see anything and doesn't care about trying to address my wife's issues. Does not care one bit. Discharging her. What a rude, clueless place. I feel sorry for patients that have to go there.

When she complained, charge nurse red flagged her chart
My sister is extremely sick. She has a life threatening illness. She went to the ER on 12/29. Her primary dr abruptly closed in December. She had been feeling faint and dizzy for a few days. I begged her to go to the hospital. I asked her to go to Virginia Beach because I thought she would get good care. Well she was treated terribly. She was left standing for over two hours. When she complained, charge nurse Taeylor got rude. Even red flagged her chart. Writing there that she was being difficult. Now she’s been admitted to the hospital. Platelet counts is 35. She knew she would be mistreated. Nobody believes you when you say you’re sick. For black women we are just naturally angry. We just watched a video a few months ago, where a woman who has the same condition as her was mistreated in the ER. That lady died. My sister is afraid. Who will listen? If not the hospital, where do we go when we’re sick and want to be believed. She has children. Not her fault she’s sick. It takes no energy to be nice. No compassion at all. Shame on that nurse and everyone else who takes that oath and doesn’t abide by it. Please pray for us. UPDATE: June 20, 2024, she’s back in the hospital. ER nurses did the same thing. There for over 12 hours no meds. Nothing but attitude and trash talk from nurses. Do not go here.

Air mattress toppers on their ICU beds that are absolutely horrible
I am currently in the ICU. If i had any idea about how long they are keeping i would order some mattress from amazon. Nice matress probably costs less than that smelly beach float. Service is a bit questionable, getting ripped out of bed at 3 am hauled to the icu and now wait for almost 8 hours to see anybody.

10/10 would not recommend
This isn’t my first bad experience here, but the closest hospital to me. Peter Ballentyne was my doctor. I entered with severe abdominal pain 6 weeks PP with urinary concerns as well. A CT scan was ordered. At the least. The department was not busy. I felt like I was going to throw up. I was dizzy and likely needed some fluids. I asked for nausea medication about 4 times. Barely acknowledged by the techs, never received anything to help. I was in pain, wasn’t offered anything for pain. So I let them know I’m in terrible pain, finally after asking was asked if I’d like some Tylenol or Ibuprofen. I waited a bit and tried to give the doctor benefit of the doubt he would take my concerns seriously. Not a care in the world this doctor had, Infact I only saw him once in triage that’s it. The nurse never even checked on me. I’d wait an hour, notice I was being ignored, and then ask her what’s going on. She didn’t know. No one cared. The doctor said it was my OB’s job to figure it out even though I was in severe pain. So, I did everyone a favor and rushed my paperwork out, left still in pain and discomfort nauseated terribly.

This hospital should be shut down
Terrible bedside manner all around. Contracted doctors not invested and just don't care about you as a human being. ER doctors treat you like something on the bottom of their shoe. Nurses are like high school cliques. Advanced cancer patient in terrible pain? Don't expect to find relief, empathy or comfort.

It's criminal the way this hospital bills their patients
I came in with severely dehydrated from a competition. I received IV fluids, some electrolyte pills, and a simple chest x-ray and was charged $6k.
