My mother's decline began at this hospital
Care at this facility is severely lacking, and our family could not rely on the floor staff to manage basic patient needs. My mother was admitted for malnutrition during cancer treatments. The constant fluid IV's made her body swell to the point of being bed bound. During her 2 month stay, the nurses would go days without turning her to the side, which caused multiple severe degree pressure sores. It got to the point where her tailbone was fully exposed. Complete and utter lack of care. After learning about this, my family and I took over wound care. At one point I asked the Head Nurse of the floor what to do because I was at a loss. I was driving an hour to the hospital before & after work to preform care that I had to learn myself. I asked her if there's a way to have two nurses take 30 min out of their day to do daily cleanings because it was mandatory. Her only response was that the floor staff doesn't provide that service. I understand nurses are on a rotation and have multiple patients, but for patients that need SOME hands-on care, it's disgraceful. I honestly don't know what happens to patients with no families. On top of this, there are only two wound nurses in the entire hospital and they only check on you 1-2x per week, so my father and I practically lived at the hospital to do daily care. The wound nurses are also not gentle/don't seem well trained with open wounds. Almost every nurse we have encountered lacks patience and empathy. They don't want to do the hard jobs like daily cleaning/dressing changing so they leave it up to the families. I'm completely empathic to the hard work that being an RN is, and we have met some lovely nurses, but the absolute majority of them don't have a passion in taking care of others. This is a huge simplification of the many months of difficulty. Response to owner: There's nothing to discuss, my mother has since passed on following her battle with cancer, but her decline began at this hospital.

Go with you're gut instincts and KNOW your rights
Just no, not by choice! EYES OPEN! Loved ones die or are denigrated, especially if they're older. Do not leave them overnight. Many "hospitalists" lack compassion and decent years of real experience. Know your rights! Older people must have an advocate!! They wait for family or friends to leave .Then, your loved one is rushed off for imagining and they dont say a word while you're there! If they do, you will get a vague answer or a lie about why. They know when you leave the bedside of a loved one because of the cameras outside/inside of the hospital rooms and in the hallways. ER is the same! Don't let them make you feel like you're an imposition because it's a tactic used across the board, especially if someone is unfortunate enough to be there beyond day three. Again, know you're rights and advocate for a loved one in need, especially if older. Patients are NOT disposable because of age or anything else. If you feel something is not right, it is not. Ask questions and insist politely,when you see your loved one is being dismissed or their life is in question. The staff has been emboldened because of what has been acceptable treatment or care now at VHC. There is not excuse.

Calls to get answers over billing is absolutely horrific
Tuesday O was the worst person to talk to and made it even more stressful on me. I ended the call with more questions than answers. Worst feeling ever when you get a bill for thousands of dollars with no help.

I've been through hell with this place
This past weekend was the last straw. I have been trying to get a test done through Labcorp and the last two times they really screwed things up. I turned to VHC for my last resort. In previous visits staff have been rude, the understaffing is crazy, and the staff there (with exception to a few) are disrespectful, accusatory, and, have no regaurd for their patients. Please go elsewhere for your care. This experiance was so traumatic and patients should recieve better treatment and respect. As a Healthcare provider myself I'm appalled at my treatment. I could NEVER dream of treating people that come for help and care.

I don’t understand how a hospital this big can have such neglectful nurses. Especially on the 7th floor! They kept giving my mother medicine to raise her blood pressure when it was already high. And when I told them to check before giving her the medicine, they said they cannot check the blood pressure before giving the medicine!? Like WHAT!? As a nurse it is YOUR job to check the vital signs before giving a patient the medication! If you keep giving the medicine without checking you can kill your patients!!! Then on top of that the doctor wanted to discharge my mother, but decided not to. The nurses that work with him, did not update the dialysis nurses that my mother will be staying the night and the dialysis nurse didn’t come at all! Making my mother miss her dialysis!!! This is literally a lawsuit against the hospital that I WILL be filing! This is absolutely ridiculous! And the attitude on a nurse to tell me if I knew the meaning on “negligence” when I told him that this is negligence on the nurses & the doctors nurses! This is completely ridiculous we understand that you have patients coming in and out but pay attention to the patients who are basically on life support! Absolutely ridiculous.

Abysmal postpartum care
I had my daughter at VHC in February. My whole experience post surgery was just embarrassing to witness. Lucky for them, I'm a second time mother. I fear for the women giving birth for the first time there that think this abysmal postpartum care is the norm. I did wind up reporting these issues in-person, but all I got was fluff from Patience Experience and more excuses from the absent nurse's boss. I encourage others to give birth elsewhere, where you can be cared for properly.

After discharge discovered an IV left in my arm
Had to make an appointment with Kaiser Reston to get it removed that evening instead of home resting. The longer it was in, the greater chance of infection. They should be more careful in recovery and a little more apologetic when such is reported. You get the feeling your comments fall into a deep hole and no one really cares.

Charged more than promised
NP for prenatal intro visit was judgmental and rude. We went into the appointment excited and I left with nightmares, considering a homebirth which otherwise never would have crossed my mind. I stated I was very concerned about cost and she assured me that everything was routine and would be covered. She ordered a test through myriad genetics for NIPT and told me I could deny it if the estimate came back too high and assured me that it would be accurate. The estimate was close to $200 so I went through with the test and just got a bill in the mail for $607 due.

They do not care
I have always had doubts about this hospital but this time is the first time I have witnessed the lack of care from the hospital. My mom has been admitted here several time but under Kaiser Care. This time she was admitted without kaiser and the lack of care, bed side manner is, the lack of follow up from administration is horrible. Do not go to VHC unless you want be discharged with chronic and critical illness because they do not care!!
