My hope is that no one has to endure what I am experiencing
My name is L.C Austin Jr and I was admitted into Northwestern Hospital on 10/13/2025 for a C2-T1 posterior decompression and fusion surgery with Dr. Alpesh Patel at the center for spine health. My life has forever been changed and has left me without the use of my hands and the inability to raise both my arms. I'm hoping with corrective nerve surgery I can become independent again but NorthWestern hospital hasn't done a thing to alleviate the situation they caused or reached out to me in any way. My hope is that no one has to endure what I am experiencing and to seriously consider other options when dealing with spine care at Northwestern Hospital. It's been almost a year since my spine surgery and nothing has changed.

Only giving one star for the cleanliness of the hospital
They "lost" my diamond earrings while I was sedated, when they removed them for CT scanning. Refused to give me a release to return to work to where I had to pay to see another doctor to obtain it. The social worker assigned to me completely refused to work with me or take my calls. The staff is completely demeaning and the doctors incompassionate. You can’t even get ahold of your doctor just get a complete runaround on the phone. When you call the patient relations number they can’t even give you the email for patient relations.

Totally dysfunctional system!
ABSOLUTELY DISASTROUS! After numerous calls to them, multiple of their failures to receive family doctors' referral faxes, and 10+ days of waiting for time sensitive surgery, they suddenly said last minute that insurance was out of network just before the appointment, which had to be cancelled.

Bye bye
Been coming here almost 20 years, and a loyal customer (except the gastro department - they are brutal). But the only ACA insurance they will accept here anymore costs about $1600 a month, so I guess they only want rich customers these days.

Don't believe the hype
This place is large and impersonal. It's supposed to be such a good hospital, but the facilities at University of Kentucky were far better. My son has been there for two and a half weeks for something that shoulda took 3 days. Not impressed. Don't believe the hype. Was just approached like they wanted to kick me out for sitting in the lobby. I told them the desk where I'd get a visitors pass was unattended. They figured it would be ok to let me stay since it was 10 minutes till it opened. Place would be filled with incompetents if it wasn't half staffed. Super cold too.

It is impossible to see your doctor
They advertise that they car about you but doctors no longer respond on MyChart and you better not need to reschedule an appointment, I tried to reschedule a cardiologist appointment today..Oct 9, 2025. Next appointment available is December 2026!!! This is no joke. They just want to order tests with fancy facilities and load their doctors with too many patients and limit time spent with you to 15 minutes. Unconscionable.

If you have the choice do not come here
The worst place to go to, just stay home n die, the security treats you better than the nurses here. The nurses lack empathy and are so dismissive that it comes off disrespectful. I rather die than come here again because it seems like they only care if you’re literally dying for them to give you any kind of treatment.

Beware this hospital only cares about your money and not your health.

Their financial department is horrible
I have to constantly stalk them to verify my insurance properly. It is very frustrating

The wait time is beyond ridiculous!
To be one of the top hospitals in Chicago, you would be better off at Mount Sinai hospital!
