It’s unfortunate I even have to write this review about the Neuro ICU
The Monday–Friday medical staff—especially Dr. Garcia, Nurse Becca, and Neuro ICU Director Tammy—were outstanding while caring for my mother after her hemorrhagic stroke. They were attentive, compassionate, and competent. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The rest of the hospital experience, particularly the check-in and security desk, was unacceptable. Families coming into an ICU are under extreme stress, and you would expect at least a baseline level of empathy. Instead, we were met with hostility, attitude, and clear abuse of authority. Despite Tammy escalating the issue to security leadership, nothing improved. If anything, it felt like retaliation. Two front desk individuals in particular made an already difficult situation far worse. One is a blonde woman who often wears pigtails, and the other is a heavier-set woman who carries herself in a similarly aggressive and confrontational way. Every interaction with them felt like a power struggle. They were dismissive, combative, and completely lacking in professionalism or basic decency. We were denied access to my mother multiple times and lied to repeatedly. These were not misunderstandings—this was consistent behavior. The blonde woman escalated situations unnecessarily and even threatened to call the police, which was completely inappropriate. The other woman matched that same tone—short, hostile, and clearly on a power trip. There was zero effort to de-escalate or treat people with respect. What’s even more concerning is that multiple staff members throughout the hospital acknowledged that these individuals are a known issue and that complaints about them happen all the time. This is not isolated—it’s ongoing and allowed. Beyond security, the night shift and weekend medical staff were equally concerning. There is a clear disconnect between them and the weekday team. On multiple occasions, night staff didn’t even know which side my mother - a stroke patient in the ICU - had deficits on, approaching her incorrectly and showing they had not reviewed her chart. For someone five days into an ICU stay, that is unacceptable. The difference in leadership was also clear. The weekday charge nurse treated us with respect and gave our family clearance based on our cooperation. Meanwhile, the weekend charge nurse accused us of “attacking” her simply for raising concerns, then quickly backtracked. That kind of language in a hospital setting is reckless and inappropriate. Throughout the stay, we encountered nurses and case managers who seemed unfamiliar with my mother’s case and asked basic questions that showed a lack of preparation. Without a strong advocate, families are left completely in the dark. You have to push for answers because continuity of care is inconsistent at best. We were fortunate to move my mother to a rehab facility, but this experience made an already devastating situation worse. This hospital needs serious retraining in professionalism, communication, and basic human empathy. One star. An incredibly difficult time in our lives was made worse by people who simply did not care.

Long wait
Waited an hour and 40 minutes to be taken in for a scheduled outpatient appointment. Technician did not insert the line properly, causing the contrast to go into my arm in addition to the vein. My arm swelled considerably.

You were rated a failure and I could see why now. SHAME ON YOU
The Dr Goldstein was very personable and the nurse Serena was helping me a great deal. I came in screaming in pain down my rightl leg. I came by ambulance I was hooked up to heart monitor blood pressure and pulse. I never got an iv to keep the vein open or hydrate me. No blood work was done to see if my CPK was elevated due to my muscle contractions in my leg. I’m a nurse and my mouth was so dry and cracked after several hours in the er. I had to ask for water and Dr Goldstein had to bring it. I had a CT scan of my back and I had asked for my hip to be scanned because that’s what hurt and was told no the back is where the sciatic nerve is and that’s my problem. They found nothing and gave me a Toradol shot that did nothing at all for pain and gave a RXcalled to cvs for a med pack of prednisone and sent me home still screaming . I wanted to be admitted it since they discharged me to home or rehab. Center which was rediculous they couldn’t admit me. The charge nurse was nasty and told me everyone went home for the weekend and they couldn’t do anything for me except to stay in the er u til Tuesday for 3 days. O food or drink and nothing done. What an insult to my profession. I e had 2surgeries in boca regional and the staff was a lot more understanding and the answers I got now was unexceptable. To be told to stay in the emergency room for the next 3 days is absurd. I especially asked the ambulance to take me to boca regional. Boy what a catastrophic experience especially being a medical professional to experience this.

Lack of cost transparency in hospital billing practices
It’s sad what has happened to this hospital since the Baptist Health takeover because there are so many truly great, kind, caring, and top-notch doctors and practitioners here and affiliated. This review is about the lack of cost transparency in hospital billing practices because it just seems more and more evident that Baptist Health places profit first. They doubled the out-of-pocket cost of my surgery two days before. When I questioned it, the hospital’s response was, “Don’t worry, we can work out a payment plan,” but that doesn’t lessen what I’d have to pay.And it’s the arrogance and the inference in that statement that unsettles me. They are both assuming you can't pay and that adding that amount is no big deal. But you’re left thinking: wait a minute. It’s not that I can’t pay. It’s that you were dishonest about the cost and now you are leaving me no choice. I have no time to see if I have other options. I think they need to understand that people today are a lot savvier about healthcare costs. A patient should not find out the morning of surgery that their out-of-pocket expense is double the estimate. That’s what would have happened to me if I had not been proactive. Four weeks prior to surgery, I had embarked on the confusing and mysterious journey to understand what my insurance would not cover. The hospital told me the doctor’s practice would provide the estimate. The practice told me they couldn’t do that until a few weeks prior, and exactly two weeks before, they did. I called the practice to pre-pay two days before the surgery and learned that the hospital intended to charge an additional $1,200 on the day of surgery. The two billing departments don’t seem to communicate with each other unless prompted. One said she’d call her contact at the other, but when I asked for that person’s name she replied, “I don’t think I’m supposed to tell you that.” A patient battling a health issue shouldn’t have the added stress of an expedition to uncover hidden costs. We deserve one complete estimate, coordinated between the practice and the hospital, at least 3-4 weeks before surgery, not when a patient has no time left to explore alternatives. And by that time, I was worn down and confused about who I was paying what. Was it $1200 for the practice and an additional $1200 + $1200 to the hospital?! I cancelled and, even if it costs the same, and I have to drive over an hour, will go to a hospital where I get straight answers to my financial questions.

Not ever coming back
I came in by ambulance. Waited 2 1/2 hours for a doctor to come in. Told it’s very busy. Care by need. They didn’t see me how do the know what my need is. Anyway. Got a CT about 5hours later. To I have diarrhea. I have been having colitis since March. This day blood was pouring out. That’s why I came. At least I recieved 2 bags of fluids. No meds. By the way the nurse was ok. The best one was Stanley. Be seemed to care. After spending 6 1/2 hours in tout ER I got no help.

Uncaring ED employee
Connor in the ED could care less about me or my health. I Informed him of my bleeding and was brushed off. I’m emphasized to Connor who was sitting the front at that time about my increased bleeding and pain and Connor looked incredibly unbothered. Litterally could not care less and looked at his computer and said “we’ve had someone waiting here for 2 and a half hours.. youll wait out here another hour or two …” I asked if anyone can help with my pain in the meantime and that my pain was climbing. Connor shrugged his shoulders again without a care in the world so I went to leave the ER and find care elsewhere despite being by my physician for an emergency. Thankfully before choosing to leave I was approached by Eddie who I was initially not nice to at all after my interaction with Connor. Thank you Eddie for intervening and truly caring, thanks to you I was able to get the care I needed. Connor could really learn something for you or maybe get another job that isn’t centered around caring for the acutely ill.

Terrible billing department. It's been months of back and forth, even getting our insurance carrier involved. Be cautious and vigilant.

I had to take all my monitors off and leave
Horrible waited 5hr to see a doctor and they never came back after all my test but the nurse said I have a kidney infection and a hernia. Shows you how well they care that the doctor didn’t come back!! Leave because the nurses were rude and did not discharge me until doc came in and I wasn’t waiting another 5 hrs for doctor.
